William S. Dockens III, PhD. is often described as a consultant’s consultant. He describes his task as simply helping individuals to evolve so that they can adapt to the 21st Century, a century when global networks rapidly replace local hierarchies, a time when leaders must learn to integrate rather than dominate, a time when most information will, of necessity, be shared rather than monopolized.
Drawing knowledge from Western science and wisdom from Chinese philosophy, William uses general systems psychology, mathematical game theory, and T’ai Chi Ch’üan to effect a subtle transformation. “In the West, it is like teaching a Chess player to play GO, a game they may never have heard of. Convincing leaders from the East that Westerners view ‘chaos’ from a slightly different perspective than Easterners is equally as difficult.” His courses gently, subtly, yet dramatically illustrate his theme, how integration is a more stable and effective strategy than domination.
A General Systems mathematical psychologist, William’s academic, artistic athletic and personal experience covers a broad spectrum. He spent almost half of his early life in USA and the rest in Scandinavia, studied at seven universities and received five academic degrees. Psychology, medical sciences, and anthropology took the most time, but he still crowded in creative writing.
Over a thirty year period as an Associate Professor and Docent at Uppsala University, William taught courses at all levels and in every area of psychology. Though he published papers over as broad a range of disciplines as he taught (from clinical to psychophysics), strategic Integration by means of chaos mathematics and game theory are what he is most known for. A member of International Society for Systems Sciences (ISSS) William is active in a global movement to integrate the behavioral sciences and bio information theory. |
